A friend pointed me towards the Australian Cancer Council's Arts Awards - this year on the theme of 'Strength' - and I recently found out that I'd come third in the poetry section. The awards ceremony and exhibition opening took place in Melbourne yesterday, and the winners have just been uploaded on the 'People's Choice' section of the website. Clicking that link will bring up all the winning entries, including mine; this link takes you directly to my entry. If you vote in the People's Choice you go into the draw to win a night in a five star hotel in the Australian capital of your choice with a $150 dinner voucher, or a bunch of IMAX double passes. I was going to make a little joke here, suggesting that kind readers might send a vote my way lest the prize go to - I don't know - a deserving child?...but then I started looking at the other entries. I've only checked out a couple so far and already wouldn't vote for myself. But - in the words of the great Molly Meldrum - if you want to be in the running for a nice prize, do yourself a favour and vote for somebody!!
